THE MINORITY INCLUSION PROJECT'S BOARD DIVERSITY INITIATIVE

An Innovative Solution

As a 501c3, Minority Inclusion Project is a charitable subsidiary of TPS that exists to close the nonprofit racial leadership gap by developing pathways to leadership for people of color while helping community organizations become structurally and systemically diverse, equitable, and inclusive.

The Minority Inclusion Project's Board Diversity Initiative aims to develop and sustain the capacity of nonprofits to recruit and engage diverse candidates on nonprofit governing boards. The program has three components: (1) Assist nonprofits with Board Equity, Inclusion, & Diversity action planning; (2) Assist diverse individuals with developing the skills and nuances to be successful board directors; and (3) Facilitate and coach board members on the fundamentals of equity, diversity, & inclusion.

SUSTAINABLE CONNECTICUT

Virtual Equity Training Initiative for Municipalities

TPS is a proud to partner with The Institute for Sustainable Energy to support the design and implementation of Sustainable CT. Sustainable CT is a voluntary certification program to recognize thriving and resilient Connecticut municipalities. An independently funded, grassroots, municipal effort, Sustainable CT provides a wide-ranging menu of best practices. Municipalities choose Sustainable CT actions, implement them, and earn points toward certification. Sustainable CT also provides opportunities for grant funding to help communities promote economic well-being and enhance equity, all while respecting the finite capacity of the natural environment. The program is designed to support all Connecticut municipalities, regardless of size, geography or resources. Sustainable CT empowers municipalities to create high collective impact for current and future residents.

TPS provides a three-part, virtual equity workshop series that includes a comprehensive framework of racial equity, diversity, and inclusion (REDI). Content is geared to help Sustainability Teams integrate REDI considerations into their Sustainable CT initiatives.


Who should attend? Sustainability Team members (elected officials, municipal staff, commissioners, volunteers) in registered Sustainable CT communities. Attendance is capped at 30.

This highly interactive training provides:

- A comprehensive framework and definitions of racial equity, diversity, inclusion (REDI)

- An overview of the value of REDI, community engagement, and why representation is important

- Practical strategies for advancing REDI through inclusive town events, community dialogue, resident feedback, and town responsiveness.

Workshop leaders offer a variety of tools and teaching methods including graphic facilitation, visual imagery, theoretical models, small group dialogue, and kinesthetic interaction, to create a dynamic space that supports all types of learners.
